I really love the work of this artist I discovered not too long ago on Flickr. Her name is Maya Bloch and I find her style speaks to me in my language. She calls herself mia.in.the.sky there on Flickr- - check her out!

Her work appears to be a little amateur looking at first, but then when you look at it for more than 3 seconds it has a wonderfully nostalgic feeling...like a memory that gets a little smudged around the edges because you can't quite remember all of the details. Fabulous.
What a great description Crystal! She really always gets me to pause and feel inspired.
Wow! That is super cool. Very disturbing, which makes me stand up and take notice. Thanks for sharing!
I've been away too long!!! I love the photo with your twin sister. It reminds me of some of your drawings: the ones where the girls look like they're ready to take on any and all comers with fists clenched secretly behind their backs.
Love your drawings! You are very talented. I especially love the way everyone looks a bit outraged. Wonderful!!!

I have a fascination with memory, and that is what this piece reminds me of, just as crystal so interestingly describes. The subtlety of the girl's gaze is quite compelling, that quizzical glance out of the corner of her eye.
Diana, so lovely to see you and I completely understand the 'long time no see' part; you've got a LOT on the plate right now! Thanks for the compliments!
Happygirl?, I am right with you on that, the subtle look of suspicion on that girl's face yet an almost cartoon rendering. I just love it!
I really enjoy your beautiful things! I LOVE the photo of Daisy the doll and I have to say if I wasn't terrified of dolls (and that being said my a horror fanatic) I would scoop it up in a second. The use of light to cast emotion is top notch!
Smooches,
Steph
Wow Steph, thanks so very much!!
I love love love this image. It reminds me of Lucian Freud, but from a feminine perspective. It is very good and very inspiring.
