Iron Lady

Iron Lady, originally uploaded by sMacshot.

Oh gosh, I need to be strong. My digital camera is broken; I need to get a new one, and I am sort of devastated by the loss. I wasn't looking for a change, but I've discovered that Canon has a loyalty program so I can trade it in and get a better deal on an upgrade to the one I've been using for the past 4 years, and maybe it is time for me to move on, learn more technically (the camera I had was not very advanced, but not too amateurish, either) perhaps it's time for me to expand my knowledge and have equipment which would allow me to do more than I could before.

Until it broke, I'd take that camera with me any time I went out at night, walking around the neighborhood... got some great shots that way. Now I feel lost without it, but until I figure out my next options, it's forcing me to do other things.

The photo here is not a digital camera product. It was taken at the family beach house with a toy plastic Diana camera....the old kind; it takes medium format film which I get developed into negatives, so I can scan them myself. This is one such negative scan. Love the look that lo-fi cameras + film gives!

I really love doing lomography
but it is so expensive with buying the 120 film, developing and printing

I have a fridge full of film. Yes, it is expensive, but I just get the exposures 'developed only'. No prints. I scan my own negatives; and development here in NYC is not expensive, thankfully; 120 is not considered to be a 'specialty' here, so no premium pricing.

That's terrible :(
But perhaps the cosmos are pushing you towards a new camera that will be perfect for you and unlock every ounce of your creative powers! (maybe)

I'm tending to believe that, Victoria. I get so sentimental about my 'things', and I do not like change since I had my fill of it growing up with all the moving, it's made me really resistent, but now I am looking forward to it. :)

You're right about what you said on my blog - summer is the perfect time for shooting with a polaroid and Holga! I'm sorry you are being forced to go that route now that your digital camera is broken, but I am sure you will come out of it with amazing images!

Ashley Anna Brown .... sometimes it's good when life forces us in other directions!

s.lei .... work, work, work for Memorial day. I can't remember when I didn't work, but I am grateful for my day job which supports me right now. No idea when the new camera will come as I am working out details as to what I can afford, and what is available with Canon. It will be announced, though!

I agree, you will learn new things that will even make you a better photographer than you already are. Sometimes gifts come to us in hidden packages.

Thank you, Tara, I am starting to get a little more excited as time goes on. Hopefully I will have it within a week, but not sure!

Very cool! I have a Diana F+ camera that I haven't tried out yet, but this makes me want to order film and give it a whirl :)

OH yes, you must!!

And isn't it funny how we can spend thousands on a digital camera, and then process and play with it in photoshop etc to make the photos look like they came out of a $20 holga with old expired film?

I love it! I am a holgaphile. (like a pedophile but without the uncomfortable public sex offender listing and criminal record)

;-)

Yes, I have two Holgas and a Polaroid back for the Holga as well...they are wonderful cameras!
