Hands

Many of you know I often roam my neighborhood at night, camera in hand.  Sometimes I'm tired of taking shots of the buildings, and seek some small detail I may not have noticed.  Other times I head home without having fired off a single shot, or, as in this case, with a couple of "dumb" shots: ones which I know will end up being deleted for their lack of aesthetic or documentary value, or stored on hard drives, never to be opened again.

The "dumb" shots in this case were a couple of hands of some wooden mannequins in a lit up shop window on Wooster St.  But when I got home,  I decided to make a challenge of it.  What, I asked myself, could I do to make something so boring look interesting?  Here are the results (starting with an original, plain ole file...)

The fourth black and white appeals to me most; the fingers seem to be twitching, just hanging there, also I like the lines running through the image. In the next to last color (oranges) Image, the hand seems to have given up, allowing itself to be consumed by the flames........

I second LiPeony! That was the first thing I was thinking. Sci-fi or an horror movie... I can see those hands waking up and start doing crazy things!!!
I'm loving he black and white ones, especially the 5th (with the added stars)
Very quirky photographs :)

Richard, when you said the fingers appear to be twitching, it suddenly made me think of the Brothers Quay!

Hahaha, well, for me this is something I 'do' for hours on end. It's a sort of artistic brainstorming which I can get quite lost in.
